During four years, you could hardly find Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums with a search party, which is partly why mayor-elect Jean Quan’s accessibility is such a novelty. Jennifer Inez Ward at Oakland Local was supposed to interview her at City Hall the other day. She never made it. Instead, she encountered Quan at 14th and Broadway with a bullhorn in hand, advocating for drug store workers. Afterward, Quan suggested they do lunch. Over edamame beans, the mayor-elect tells her: “I’m like falling asleep in front of the laptop almost every night. I’ve literally written a thousand thank you notes and I still have about 400 to go.”\n\nPhoto: Los Angeles Times
