Jane Kim steps out, on magazine cover
Supervisor Jane Kim receives cover treatment in the latest issue of KoreAm, the national magazine aimed at Korean Americans. In an enlightening Q&A session with San Francisco writer/editor Bernice Yeung, Kim shares insights into her life, complemented by a series of glam photos captured by Shane Sato. Even the makeup artist, Grace Kim, is credited, though we’re assured there’s no relation.
A Policy Geek With a Fashionable Edge
Jane Kim, a 33-year-old civil rights attorney, former Board of Education president, and arts organizer, is described as an “unabashed policy geek.” She distinguishes herself in the political arena not only through her intellectual prowess but also through her choice of attire, conducting business in designer 4-inch heels and grooving to old-school hip-hop during her drives to appointments. As for comparisons to Chris Daly, her predecessor in District 6, Kim brings a unique blend of poise and determination. Though she holds a black belt in taekwondo, she isn’t known to be an aggressive vocalizer but rather poised and confident. Yet, when defending causes dear to her heart, she can indeed be “searing and tough.”
